ABC's Sam Donaldson chose me as the 2011 recipient of the prestigious David Kaplan scholarship and fellowship at ABC News in Washington. The David Kaplan Fellowship was established to honor Donaldson's late field producer who was killed by a sniper in Sarajevo in 1993. The selection process is highly competitive. Select applicants are interviewed by a four-person faculty committee for 20 minutes. The committee narrows the search down to three and then Donaldson personally interviews and selects the winner.
